AmericasTAKEN Overview

Treat me with dignity.

The word dignity is not in the vocabulary of child protective services in the United States.

Parents are systematically alienated, humiliated, maligned, and marginalized by not only CPS but the family courts and the general public. Often the brunt  of a vindictive spouse trying to gain custody, or false allegations that are protected by privacy laws concerning minors....a parent accused of abuse will be subjected to the mental torture comparable to that of soldiers who have been prisoners of war. Anxiety, clinical depression, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts and action often follow the forced removal of a child.

A corrupt and unfair Child Protective Services and corrupt family court process has wreaked havoc on the American family and destroyed thousands of lives across this nation, rocking the very foundations of the constitutionally protected family unit.

Thousands upon thousands of parents in this country must now cope with the loss of a living child.  Time stops the day the child was forcefully removed. the parent enters a limbo of the unknown. A silent period of waiting...hoping against hope that their child will find them someday.

When your child is #TAKEN, there is no closure. Not until you see, feel, touch and hug your child again — someday. Not until then is the nightmare over. Our hope is that this day will someday arrive for the parents who've had their child (or children) wrongfully #TAKEN by CPS. Many parents of #TAKEN children feel stripped of their dignity. Parents have no rights, no voice, no justice and no hope when their children are #TAKEN.

Parents all over America and the rest of the world have been the victim of:

  • Child Trafficking
  • Medical Kidnapping
  • Forced Adoption
  • Forced Removal
  • Foster Warehousing

The above offenses are just for starters. Thousands of stories here in the US alone should be sending shock waves through every city, in every state, all across the country.

In the age of the Internet, its now possible, as well as important, to pool our collective knowledge. Parents can come here to support each other, create a Treasure Chest for their #TAKEN child to one day discover and once again become hopeful that someday their wait will end. #TAKEN children can come here to search for their biological families.  Guests who visit the website may avail themselves of educational materials, links, and services listed under our Resources button.

It is our sincere hope that the battle for our nations children will be resolved in peaceful dialogue, with careful consideration by lawmakers and judges of the trauma inflicted on a #TAKEN child when he is stripped of every biological, ethnic, and religious connection.

We maintain the belief that the biological bond is paramount to a healthy happy child.

In documented cases of abuse, where a parent is tried and convicted of a crime,we maintain the belief that CPS should intervene.

In cases of a child being truly orphaned, we maintain the belief that adoption should occur.

In the vast majority of CPS cases abuse is never substantiated according to constitutional due process and we, the biological families of #TAKEN children INSIST that this be addressed by lawmakers.

This website is dedicated to reuniting #TAKEN children with their biological families.

We use Profiles (just like Facebook) here at AmericasTAKEN.com for both Parent and TAKEN Child pages. To learn more about How we use Profiles, click the "Next" link below.

How we use Accounts (Profiles)

Like Facebook, AmericasTAKEN.com utilizes profiles to keep track of both our parent users and the child profiles they create.

Parents Create at least TWO accounts

  • ONE Parent account
  • One or more TAKEN Child account(s)

In order to separate Child account from Parent accounts there are a total of three different types of accounts.

  • Parent accounts - created by Parent
  • TAKEN Child accounts - created by Parent
  • Child accounts - created by Children

Children looking for their parents on this site will create a Child account for themselves and search for either their own information, (like the existence of a Parent created TAKEN Child account) or for their parents information.

In order to create a search database we need to be able to differentiate between parent accounts and child accounts. We wouldn't be able to do that if each parent only had one account. There is no off-the-shelf software that allows us to do what we're doing here. No site like this has ever been created before so we have to make due with the software available to us. It would be nice if we could afford a $75,000 per year full time programmer, but we can't. This is all being built by volunteers.

Using Accounts

While it may seem tedious and tiresome to create all of these accounts, in the end, you'll mainly just log into and use your Parent account.

When do I use my Parent Account?

You will be logged into your Parent account virtually all the Time.

For the most part, once you set up your TAKEN Child's profile, and send your Parent profile a friend connection request from it, you'll log out and conduct all your activities from your Parent account. You may want to update the Profile and Cover images from time to time, but the majority of the time you will remain logged into your parent account.

From your parent account you can

  • Post pictures of your TAKEN Child(ren)
  • Send Messages to your TAKEN Child(ren)
  • Create a group for the entire family

Posting Pictures

You can add photos of your child to his or her timeline by simply tagging them with their username while logged into your Parent profile.

To tag username haley.smith you would simply include @haley.smith in your photo description or photo title. Once you post the photo, the tag turns into the child's full name.

Like this: @Haley Hamilton Smith and shows up on his timeline automatically. This saves time because you only have to post from one place: Your Parent account.

Sending Personal Messages

You can send personal messages to your TAKEN Child(ren) from your Parent account. Sort of a Treasure Chest of your thoughts and emotions and well wishes that someday your child can see.

Family Groups

The next project on our plate is allowing you to make family groups. Once you create your group while logged into your parent account you can start a group and add your TAKEN Child(ren) to it.

When do I use my TAKEN Child Account(s)?

Once you create your Parent account, you will then create your TAKEN Child account(s). Once your TAKEN Child account(s) receive approval from the admins, you can log into it and double check your child's info. The name, adopted name (if known), the child's birth date and place of birth as well as a Profile (Portrait) and Canvas (Cover) photo for your child's account.

Before you log out of each TAKEN Child account you will want to send a Connection Request to your Parent account. After you have done this you will log out of your TAKEN Child account and log back into your Parent account. From there you can post photos to your timeline and tag your children with their username with an at sign "@" (as described above) as well as send private messages and be a part of family groups.

We use Gmail here at AmericasTAKEN.com to keep things easier for our users as well as our admins. To learn more about that, click the "Next" link below.

Why we use Gmail

The problem:
  • AmericasTAKEN.com requires that each account have a unique email address.
  • Logging into and out of multiple email accounts is tedious and inconvenient.
The solution:
  • One email account that allows multiple email addresses.
  • Gmail is the ONLY email service that offers this solution.

That's right. Just ONE Gmail account.

Really. Just ONE.

Really.

NOTE: The child email variants described below require no setup in Gmail. You will continue to log into Gmail the same way you did before. The email addresses you create for your child are entered into the email field during the account creation process on AmericasTAKEN.com. Just create another account (like when you created your Parent account), except this time, choose TAKEN Child as the account type and enter the email address using the "+name" method described below on each TAKEN Child account.

How it works

Gmail will allow you to use multiple email addresses with your Gmail account. What this means is that each email address you create using your Gmail username will all go into your inbox. This way you can utilize different email addresses for your Parent account as well as one or more TAKEN Child accounts.

Your Gmail username is the part of your Gmail address before the “@” sign.

Let’s use Dana Davis as an example. Dana has only one Gmail address which is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. This one account will be used to create Dana’s parent account as well as the TAKEN Child account for her daughter Beth. Dana’s Gmail username is ddavis01981.

Gmail has a very cool trick which allows you to utilize your Gmail username plus any other set of letters and or numbers to create un unlimited amount of unique email address for use with your Gmail inbox. All of these extra email addresses you create will all be received in your ONE Gmail inbox.

Here’s how that works

Dana’s Gmail address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. When Dana creates the TAKEN Child account for her daughter Beth she’ll simply insert a plus sign “+” and the word beth between her Gmail username and “@gmail.com” like this:

ddavis01981+beth@gmail.com

TIP:DON'T forget to include the + sign or it won't work.

This email address will still show up in the inbox for This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. because Gmail ignores the plus sign “+” and what is after it. To Gmail, ddavis01981+beth@gmail.com is the same thing as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The folks that created Gmail did this so you, the Gmail user could organize your inbox and utilize multiple email addresses without having to create multiple Gmail accounts.

Here’s how Gmail’s Help Page explains it:

Filter your messages with email aliases

By adding a “+” and any combination of letters or numbers after your username, you can create alternate email addresses that will all be delivered to your account.

Sometimes it’s handy to have these aliases when you sign up with your email address for different services. For example, if your email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and you sign up for lots of newsletters, you can sign up with the email address hikingfanThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. instead of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You’ll still receive those emails in your inbox, but If you ever want to filter all the newsletters you’ve received, you can filter by messages sent to hikingfanThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Using an address alias

Gmail doesn't offer traditional aliases, but you can receive messages sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. For example, messages sent to jane.doe+notes@gmail.com are delivered to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

You can set up filters to automatically direct these messages to a folder, to Trash, apply a label or star, skip the inbox, or forward to another email account.

Still don’t understand?

By using the Gmail email alias “+” trick, an entire family can be entered into AmericasTAKEN.com using different email addresses all based on the same Gmail username. Let’s say that Dana actually has three TAKEN children. Not only can Dana use the same Gmail account for Beth, she can also use it for Bobby and Brandi like this:

NOTE: If you cannot see the full table below on your phone, try turning your phone sideways. You'll probably need to scroll back up to find your place again.

Dana This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   ← Parent account
Beth ddavis01981+beth@gmail.com   ← TAKEN Child account #1
Bobby ddavis01981+bobby@gmail.com   ← TAKEN Child account #2
Brandi ddavis01981+brandi@gmail.com   ← TAKEN Child account #3

Email sent to any of these different addresses are all going to show up in the inbox for This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Convenient for AmericasTAKEN Admins

This site could very well explode with users as word gets out of its existence. Managing all of these Parent and Child accounts could become very difficult very quickly. By utilizing this Gmail trick, the administrators of AmericasTAKEN will be able to:

  • Find an entire family by searching for ONE Gmail username
  • Search for all TAKEN Children by searching for the plus sign

For Example

We can find Dana's entire family by searching our user database for ddavis01981. We'll find Dana, Beth, Bobby and Brandi just by searching for ddavis01981. This will be huge for the administrators of this site going forward.

Still don’t understand?

If you still don’t quite understand how it works, that’s OK. (And don't feel bad. Some computer experts don't fully understand either.) You don’t need to fully understand how this works just like you don’t fully understand how electricity works. You can utilize electricity and enjoy its benefits without being an electricity expert. By the same token, you can utilize and enjoy the Gmail alias “+” trick without being a computer nerd like me.

Next we'll look at how you sign up. It helps to know what works best before you setup your account. To learn more about the setup process, click the "Next" link below.

How to Sign Up

Creating the PERFECT profile is pretty easy to do once you know how. Please review this page prior to setting up your Parent profile or TAKEN Child(ren) profile(s) in order to maximize your experience on AmericasTAKEN.com.

The different profile types are explained on the Account Help page. If you haven't read this information, please click here to do so now.

Creating the perfect Parent Profile

This is a step by step guide explaining the best way to set up your profile. You may want to make notes and plan out your responses to each of the sign up forms before you begin. If you are creating a TAKEN Child profile, click here. The instructions that follow are for Parent accounts ONLY.

Your Full Name

First, Middle and Last names should be your actual, legal name as it was when your TAKEN Child was #TAKEN. If you have remarried and your name is different, it is OK to use your married name but would that be the best choice if your TAKEN Child has no way of knowing your new married name? There is no hard and fast rule about this but think about each aspect of your parent profile from your TAKEN Child's point of view. How easy will you be to find? Think about this as you create your parent profile.

Username

Your Username should be short and sweet. Like Twitter, AmericasTAKEN.com allows you to tag other users in posts and photos. You can tag other parents, an admin, yourself, your TAKEN Child and someday, hopefully, the Child account of your TAKEN Child when he or she finds this site and connects with you.

Your username is not an email address and it is not your FULL NAME with spaces. Spaces are hard to tag because a space is represented as %20 in the tagging system so to tag a username that has spaces in it would look like this: @Haley%20Joel%20Osment. Kind of hard to type so don't include spaces in usernames. Not in your own username and certainly, not in your TAKEN Child's username. Having spaces in usernames just makes things unnecessarily hard on yourself and everyone else using the site.

Tagging on AmericasTAKEN.com works the same way it works on Twitter. To tag a user, your simply put an "@" sign before the username of that user. To tag Geri, you'd include @Geri in a post or photo. To tag the webmaster you would enter @admin. For someone else to tag you they would need to include @yourusername (using your real username, of course, not this example.) Once you tag someone in a post or photo and publish that post or photo the tag @Geri will appear as @Geri M Pfeiffer

Email

Your Email address should be a Gmail address and if you have not read the page on Email addresses you should click here to read it.

Password

Pick a password that is difficult to guess but easy to remember. Using your child's name as a password is akin to handing the keys to your car to any passer by. Don't use easy to guess passwords. Make it easy on yourself without making it easy for strangers to hack into your account on AmericasTAKEN.com.

Date of Birth

The Date of Birth on your parent profile is YOUR birthday, not your child's birthday. The child's birthday will go on his or her TAKEN Child profile. Everything on your profile should be accurate to YOU and not your child. This is why we have both Parent and Child profiles. Your info goes on your profile and the child's info goes on the child's profile. A common mistake here on AmericasTAKEN.com is parents mixing info and having both Parent and Child info represented on ONE profile.

City, State and ZIP Code

On a parent profile the City, State and ZIP code should reflect where you live right now. If you ever move, you should update it to accurately reflect where you live.

Creating the perfect TAKEN Child Profile

This is a step by step guide explaining the best way to set up your TAKEN Child profile. You may want to make notes and plan out your responses to each of the sign up forms before you begin. If you are creating a Parent profile, click here. The instructions that follow are for TAKEN Child accounts ONLY.

Child's Full Name

First, Middle and Last names should be the actual, legal name as it was on the birth certificate.

Child's Adopted Name

Only enter something in the Adopted Name field if you know for sure what it is. Don't guess here. If you don't knot it, leave it blank.

Username

TAKEN Child's Usernames should be short and sweet. Like Twitter, AmericasTAKEN.com allows you to tag other users in posts and photos. You can tag your TAKEN Child using his or her username. The shorter and simpler you make it, the easier it will be to tag your TAKEN Child on posts and photos you place on the site.

The username is not an email address and it is not the child's FULL NAME with spaces. Spaces are hard to tag because a space is represented as %20 in the tagging system so to tag a username that has spaces in it would look like this: @Haley%20Joel%20Osment. Kind of hard to type so don't include spaces in usernames. Having spaces in usernames just makes things unnecessarily hard on yourself and everyone else using the site.

Tagging on AmericasTAKEN.com works the same way it works on Twitter. To tag a user, your simply put an "@" sign before the username of that user. To tag your child, you'd include @ChildsUsername (using the real username of the child, of course, not this example.) in a post or photo. Once you tag someone in a post or photo and publish that post or photo the tag @ChildsUsername will appear as @Child Full Name. Again, this is an example. The actual name would be there, not the words Child Full Name.

Email

Your TAKEN Child's Email address should be a Gmail address utilizing the + trick. If you have not read the page on Email addresses you should click here to read it.

The most common mistake we see is forgetting to use the + sign in the email address for your TAKEN Child accounts. If you forget the plus sign after your username and before your child's name you've essentially referenced a totally new email account that probably doesn't exist and confirming the email for your child is going to be next to impossible.

Password

You can use the same password for your TAKEN Child account as you did on your own account to make it easier to remember. Passwords do not have to be unique from account to account like usernames and email addresses have to be. You can make it easier on yourself if you keep all your passwords the same on AmericasTAKEN.com.

Date of Birth

The Date of Birth on your TAKEN Child's profile is his or her actual birthday. Everything on your TAKEN Child profile(s) should be accurate to the child, not to the parent. This is why we have both Parent and Child profiles. Your info goes on your profile and the child's info goes on the child's profile. A common mistake here on AmericasTAKEN.com is parents mixing info and having both Parent and Child info represented on ONE profile.

City, State and ZIP Code

On a TAKEN Child profile the City, State and ZIP code should reflect where the child was born. This will be whatever is listed on the birth certificate.

.

Canvas Image

A Canvas Image is like a Facebook Cover Photo. It helps to have a properly cropped image or you may end up with chins or sky instead of faces. Using a computer, you can crop your images free online at PicMonkey. You can also choose one from our gallery and change it later.
